    About Me

A first-generation college student, I left the farm in Oklahoma to study piano.  Later I went to Northwestern University to pursue voice studies, fulfilling the second of two lifelong passions.  My first loves in piano are Chopin and Debussy, whose works I am always studying.  As a classically-trained tenor, I have surveyed German, French, Italian, and Spanish art song as well as standard operatic repertoire...including studies in foreign language and diction.  Before moving to South Florida, I performed in the Chicagoland area as a professional chorister at Churches, Temples, and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Chorus, in addition to occasional work as a Church pianist.

    Teaching Methods

I generally teach piano lessons from one of three standard methods: Bastien, Alfred, and Faber. Each has their benefits, and each is appropriate for different kinds of students. As soon as the student is able, I like to introduce actual classical repertoire. There are many wonderful works written by celebrated composers that are accessible and entertaining for young pianists, without the need for simplified arrangements.

Child vocalists are trained exclusively in treble singing. Boys with unchanged voices and girls have essentially the same soprano instruments and can study folksongs, easier art songs...including songs in foreign languages...and, yes, Disney favorites in their voice lessons. For adult voices I offer standard classical singing techniques with folksongs, art songs, and operatic literature. Please note: My training never included belting methods, musical theatre, or popular music. Those styles and repertoires are not something I can offer.
